What’s Your Story?

March 31, 2016 By Karen Spencer Leave a Comment

Holiday Home Owners StoryAs a holiday home owner, you need to use everything you can to stand out online. As you know, it’s a very busy market place and even within your area guests will have plenty of accommodation choice.

Your job is to convince them that a holiday with you will solve their problems and give them the best possible holiday – ever!

There are many ways you can do that – by your website images, website copy, social media posts.  But something that’s often overlooked is the owner and more specifically, the owner’s story.

You the owner and your story make your holiday home unique.  It’s a proposition that no-one else can offer.

We’re all nosy by nature (admit it) and we all like the behind the scenes features.  Think of your story like that.

So, sit down and write your holiday home owner’s story

Include in it:

Who you are

Your hobbies, your general likes

You reason for buying your holiday home in that area

Why you enjoy spending time in that location

What a typical day there looks like for you, what’s your routine, your activities

What you love specifically about your holiday home

What it’s really like to spend time there

Why did you chose to purchase that particular property

How long have you owned it

What history does it have

What improvements have you made since purchasing it (before and after)

Tips for writing your story

Write it in prose or in a series of questions if you find that easier.  If you struggle to get your passion for your holiday home and its area down on paper, then why not record your voice. Speak about it, record it (use an app on your mobile phone) and then transcribe, word for word, what you said.

When writing it, don’t over think it and write from the heart as if you’re talking to a friend.   You don’t want your story to sound too formal or read like a carefully constructed sales page, because it’s not.  Also include some photos of you and your family spending time at your holiday home and the local area.  This brings alive your words.

Once my story is written, then what?

Once you’ve written your story, put it on your website’s About Us page and promote it in your social media.  If you don’t already have an About Us page, then create one as you now have ideal content to put there!  Also print out your story and put it at the front of your holiday home’s welcome folder.  It’s a great introduction and a reminder for your guests.

If you’re feeling brave, record your story face to camera – what better way for future guests to get to know you.  Be even braver and put this on your home page!  A unique and powerful way to introduce your holiday home to website visitors.

Your story whether in words or in video is unique, so use it in your marketing.   The personal touch is so important for individual owners to embrace because it’s something the big listing sites can’t do!

Remember, people buy from people and for you to come out from behind your holiday home’s brand takes you a step closer to making that transaction.

Use your story as a tool in your toolkit, to reach out and speak to future guests. Click To Tweet

Guests get to know you and relate to you and it can be the reason they book with you; over a bland, faceless holiday home in the next village or apartment block.
